Big Eden
Just watched this movie again--jeez. I can't remember the last time I cried so much, but in a good way. So much heartbreaking tenderness and love between people, all sorts of people. I wish I could really believe that's how human beings really are, and that all small towns are Big Edens. That's how I'd like the world to be.

That movie is like a washing machine--cleanses the heart and the spirit. I feel like you could shove a homophobe in at one end, and he'd come out squeaky clean and enlightened at the other end. It's just so good-hearted. How could anyone begrudge those guys a chance for love?

I can't remember if that's the second or third time I've seen it--I might have seen it twice in the theater--but for the first time I understood Pike's tribal story as it related to the film itself, and went ahhhhh! Greatness.

Oh! I love that movie, too! I don't know anyone else who has seen it! It was only here on a very limited run, and didn't stick around long. So is it out on DVD now? I would love to get it from Netflix and watch it again. :)

Big Eden on DVD
I really adored this movie. It only appeared anywhere for a couple of weeks at a time, but I managed to see it at least five times in ten days when it was in the theatre in Seattle.

It is available on DVD and looks great. There's some interesting little interviews with cast and crew, a director's commentary, and some deleted scenes, one of which is a great, heartbreaking, awkward scene between Henry and Dean which would have fit about halfway through the film.

Also, when I got my copy of the DVD, it came with several recipes, which amused me greatly.

Re: Big Eden on DVD
Ooh, thanks for mentioning the deleted scenes & stuff--I keep forgetting all the bells & whistles that are posible with DVDs and I would never have thought to go back and play the special features. :)

Recipes? Heh. That's kind of odd ... and yet appropriate. Thanks for the info! I will definitely have to get the DVD to watch it again. I'm a sucker for unrequited love stories, especially of the silent pining sort. :)
