Holy Crap.
AP: I'm sorry, I didn't think I was going to talk about "man on dog" with a United States senator, it's sort of freaking me out.

Sen. Rick Santorum: "I have a problem with homosexual acts"

harmonyfbharmonyfb on April 23rd, 2003 01:07 pm (UTC)
See, he just needs a translator, Anna.

"I have a problem with homosexual acts" = "I am a closet case who lives in fear that you'll find out", or, possibly, "I'm the oldest living virgin you'll ever meet"

"Senator Rick Santorum" = "Homophobic Asshole"

"You have the right to do anything" = ::whine:: "How come they're all getting laid and I'm not?"

::gritting teeth:: Bastard.

You should dedicate some slashy goodness to him, Anna. With you know, lots of debauchery. Does S/A count as incest?

Yes! In fact, you should send it to him on his website! (There's a nifty little email portion with a handy form to fill out. :) I just sent him a (not smutty) letter that you can read here. His site is here. Let's flood him with slash! :)

I am sorry to say that this man is represents my state. And I have to say, that his saying "I have no problem with homosexuals" puts him WAAAAAAYYYY up on the food chain from many of the people I deal with on a daily basis.

I'm not even sure what to say to that. He's not really all that clear either on some issues. Like, I'm not against homosexuality, but I'm against homosexual acts. WTF? And if he's against sodomy does that mean he's against cunilingus and fellatio as well, cuz that's just silly and kinda mean. Won't take my cunilingus away, oh no.

Actually, the legal definition of sodomy includes oral sex. All the sodomy cases the Supreme Court has dealt with covered both anal and oral sex between members of the same sex. And Texas gets around it by saying "deviant sexual acts between members of the same sex." But! That law is in under attack right now...the Supreme Court should be hearing Lawrence v. TX sometime soon, and hopefully the decision will go well. Considering Romer v. Evans, the equal protection arguement has a pretty good chance of holding up, I hope.

That is so many different kinds of scary, I don't even know where to start. I thought conservatives were supposed to be all about smaller government and less interference from the state in the lives of the people and whatnot. How does this brand of rhetoric fit into that worldview? Something has gone very very wrong with the Republican party. Not that it was, you know, great to start with but...gah.

Yes, Republicans want to reduce the size of government - they want to make it just small enough to fit in our bedrooms. ;)

Man, it's like Sir Guest threw this together.

"The average American family in the 1950s paid (unintelligible) percent in federal taxes." He cough-saved! In an interview with AP!

"You're going to get a lot of things that you're sending signals that as long as you do it privately and consensually, we don't really care what you do." Um. What?

"And now we're just extending it out." As opposed to extending it, um, in. Because that got confusing.

"Why? Because society is based on one thing: that society is based on the future of the society." Which will socialize societally in a social context.

What passes for conservative oratory these days, my Lord. How are you going to incite hatred and repression with muddy syntax like that, Senator?
