pay it forward

I've been in love with this meme cultural phenomenon for probably about ten years or more. I remember the first time I heard about it, in the guise of "Random Acts of Kindness." The movie sucks, but the idea is cool. Karmic in the purest sense, perhaps, where you're not trying to score points with the universe so that it'll treat you nice, but merely trying to create a ripple effect of goodness, sort of like in that Volkswagen commercial "Chain Reaction." (Because you should always look to pop-cultural vehicles for your analogies.)

So, zyre has come up with this great idea, which is to pick a free LJ user and set up a paid account for them. (Or yourself, but I like the other gesture better. ;) If I recall, just $5 buys someone 2 months.

Thanks to mpoetess for passing this on. Now I'm off to toss a little bit of money at the world. Er, using this handy link! Yes...
