I, Robot
Is so very very very boring. Do not rent it.

This is a PSA.

P.S., I stopped the movie with 29 minutes left--I'm not watching any more of it, even though I've paid for it. That's how boring it is. Apologies to those who loved it. I die now.

I remember that at some point I forgot that the robots were CGI. And I remember that I was the only one who laughed when Shia LaBoeuf swore. Disney boys aren't supposed to swear!

The robots were very convincing. But boring. So so boring. *zzzzzzz*

Don't you want to know how it ends?
Will Smith is the killer! And he's really a woman! And he was dead all along! IN SPACE!!!

Man, based on this I REALLY hope you one day write reviews of sex toys at that new job of yours. If you take it. :0)

Re: Don't you want to know how it ends?
I would've applied long ago if it was a writing gig. (The ad's been in the paper forever.) I've seen some of the write-ups on their web site, and they're... descriptive... but not very exciting.

Maybe I could become one of those people on ePinions who reviews stuff as a hobby. I guess it'd get kind of expensive if I stuck with the sex toys motif, though.

Whew! We were wavering between the renting of it and the not. I guess it's The Bourne Supremacy for us this weekend. Although I hear that has its own shaky-handheld-camera problems.

When exactly did Will Smith sell his soul to Hollywood? Parents just don't understand, baby.
Anna S.eliade on January 29th, 2005 02:33 am (UTC)
I am watching The Bourne Supremacy now! Watch it instead. It has Marton Csokas as the Russian assassin, who makes me think, "This is the *real* Alex Krycek." Not that I have anything against Nic Lea, really, but still...with the hotness.
Kest: runningkestrelsan on January 29th, 2005 03:11 pm (UTC)
Wait, I thought that was the Karl Urban role--because I was thinking how much he looked like Nic Lea and got a kick out of that. I could be mixing up the roles, though.
Anna S.eliade on January 29th, 2005 05:31 pm (UTC)
You're right! It is Karl Urban. How strange of me. Never mind. *g*
Kest: Starbuckkestrelsan on January 30th, 2005 01:37 am (UTC)
Marton Csokas was in it too, I think--was he the Treadmill guy who Bourne fought with in that apartment? The one Bourne blew up? I admit I had this wistful fantasy of the two of them being buddies and working together *g*.
Anna S.eliade on January 30th, 2005 01:45 am (UTC)
Yes! I believe you're right. He was one of the elves in LotR, and I was going through the cast list in order on IMDb to discover who the guy who played the assassin was, and when I looked at pictures of him with his long hair I mistook him for the actor playing Karl Urban's character. (And if you can follow that...) Anyway, yes. *g*

Nah. I agree. I didn't shut it off, it just became that background chatter while I read LJ and messed around on the computer.

It blew.

29 minutes left? You got that far? We pulled it out of the DVD player after half an hour. And we were in the mood for a fun, silly scifi film -- but this was so bad, it didn't qualify.
Anna S.eliade on January 29th, 2005 05:43 pm (UTC)
Well, I survived that long by multitasking. I was messing around on the computer, perhaps not even half watching, but every time I did look up my eyes glazed over, so...yeah. *g*
Mintwitchmintwitch on January 29th, 2005 06:55 am (UTC)
I spent the whole movie wondering how the writer/director went from I, Robot The Book to I, Robot The Completely Different Movie. Except for the Rules. That kept me interested enough to sit through it. That and wondering if robots were gay. I swear some of the ones at the end were holding hands and since their all the same gender, except for the tube chick robot... I'm not making up the homosocial subtext, really! It's totally there. Um.
Mintwitchmintwitch on January 29th, 2005 06:56 am (UTC)
And I speak English. I even write it sometimes. Drinking is bad.

Hearsay, many-handed information, but I heard that the script was originally just for a Generic Robot Movie when they finally got the rights to the I, Robot name. Again, not sure how accurate this is, but it explains a few things.

That, and they so ripped off one of the characters (not spoiling much) from the System Shock games.

Thank you for the warning. I was thinking about adding it to my Netflix queue, but hadn't got around to it yet. Now I think I won't bother. (Of course, my queue is more than 120 discs long at the moment, so it's not like I would have got around to seeing it any time soon anyway.)

I wish you'd have posted that last weekend! We rented it on Sunday, but we did manage to watch it through...with my 17 year old son making snide comments the whole time.

Hee -- read a funny review of "I, Robot." This guy concentrates on all the marketing that went on in the movie, but had the same basic opinion as you:

So glad to have read this before I wasted the time and dinero.
