oh my *god*!
How could I not have noticed this before? In the beginning of "Reptile Boy" Willow and Buffy and Xander are all slumber-partying together watching the Bollywood movie and Xander is BRAIDING WILLOW'S HAIR.

He is such a girl. I could not love him more.

It's greatness. :D Buffy's trying too, but she's mostly making a mess of it, but Xander's braid is perfection. Hee.
Buffy's trying too, but she's mostly making a mess of it, but Xander's braid is perfection.
That's the best part. Xander's obviously done this dozens of times, and Buffy, at this stage, has never had a sister, or a 'slumber-party' kind of friend, so she keeps messing it up and looking over at what Xander is doing.

Xander's such a girl, and Buffy's such a boy. In her relationship with Spike, she's the bad boyfriend, in his with Faith and Anya and even Cordelia, the women are clearly the 'man' of the relationship, dictating the terms and the timing to him. Could they have made him any more queer, with his first relationship being so anviliciously 'in the closet?'

In season two, the girls walk around empty handed, and *he* is carrying a purse-like bookbag. The show is loaded with gender-reversing imagery. Add to that all of the man-caressing (and long looks at shirtless Angel) from Wishverse-Vampire-Xander, and that boy's gay, gay, gay. (Vastly more so than Vampire Willow, oddly.)

Canonically, the character hasn't ever been with someone that he *chose* to be with. He's been jumped on every occasion. If he ever gets to make that choice, will he be going for meat or cake?

It's not that I actually go to my natural threesome place with those three, so much, but yeah, that scene is my recipe for instant Jello. ;)

I *do* remember him braiding her hair!

He *is* a girl :) Remember the fight he and Harmony had? Totally bitch-slapping each other - LOL!

AWww! It's so charming.

Another femXander moment: removing Spike's tracking device, when Xander grabs the device and takes off at a girly, floppy run to ditch and flush it.

So so so so funny.

I find that scene charming anyway, but oh. god. You're so right, and it's one of the most adorable things I've ever seen. :)

:: blinks ::
they watch bollywood movies?
wah. shoutout to me, and braiding of hair, and i have never seen this ep.
thanks for telling me anna. now i can't complain that joss is completely clueless about the existance of my subcontinent.
also, this would mean that xander would be perfectly at home helping people groom their hair, right?
Anna S.eliade on May 6th, 2004 10:28 pm (UTC)
The other canonical movies they've watched together, if I recall, were a Kung-fu flick and "Apocalypse Now" (though they fell asleep). :>)

Xander the Hair Groomer: I'm down with that.

So here I was venting in my journal about how some stories over feminize Xander and here he is braiding hair. And possibly painting toenails and tittering and blushing over Cleo articles.

Now I have a image of Xander on the construction site in a lacy thong and blue glitter eyeshadow. Sometimes I hate my brain.

Something to read this weekend!
Hey there,

Something to read this weekend!

My fav. quote:

Apparently, Kane enjoys on-set fighting with Marsters as well. "Me and James have a good time. It's fun to work with James, because when we throw each other around the room, he's like, 'Are you OK?' 'Yeah, I'm OK. You can go harder if you want.' 'I can?' By the last take, we're slamming each other into everything. I absolutely love it."

You're kidding! Holy fuck! I love that!
