obsession du jour

Fired up with memories of the eighties, I caved to the market economy and bought a used copy of "The Secret Policeman's Third Ball" for an amount I won't disclose, and have been feeling the nostalgia. I tried to send an MP3 of this to my home account so I could upload and share it--and, sigh, my dial-up account hung for ten minutes until I gave up. All I have are the lyrics. Spuffy, anyone?

Call Me Names
Joan Armatrading

I just wanna see you at night
Don't come round my house in the day
I love it when we start up a fight
Love it when the fight ends your way

I love it when you call me names
Love it when you call me names
Love it when you call me names
Love it when you call me

Can't wait to see you again
You're gonna slap my face
Beat me up then beat me again
And over and over
And over and over

I love it when you call me names
I love it when you call me names
I love it when you call me names
I love it when you call me names

Big woman, little man
And he loves it when she beats his brains out
He's pecked to death
But he loves the pain
And he loves it when she calls him names

I love it when you call me names
I love it when you call me names
I love it when you call me names
I love it when you call me

Wearing heavy leather with lace
Dresses up in cowboy taste
Punished, think of a crime
It's their way of loving
It's their way of loving
It's their way of loving, not mine

Call me names, love it
I love it when you call me names
I love it when you call me names

I loved this song about thirteen or fourteen years before Spike/Buffy even came into being, of course. It's weird to look back and realize that you had this odd, specific, politically incorrect bent even when not yet fully baked.
