maker of lists
Note: I still update this post pretty regularly for my own reference. :) -- Anna, Feb 10, 2006

I notice that it's Friday and I've been MIA all week. Time gets away from me and I had nothing to say, I guess. Among other things, I've been clearing my inbox at work (down from 700 messages to 7), and sleeping. Supposedly sleep is restorative, but for some reason I have to keep doing it every night.

I've also been making a list of songs I want. I've always been a good girl, paying full price for a CD even when I only want a single song. I'm pretty over that. It's easier to buy used now, but I still have a whole collection of one-hit CDs that I paid way too much for. Someday soon I'm going to start hitting up S. for freshly burned CDs, I think. I'm getting pretty desperate.

My mad and eclectic list follows. I think you should all study this list and try to profile my personality, upbringing, and age, and tell me what a freak I am, or how very similar I am to you, or both.

I am fascinated by where we overlap. :>) If Amy brought them in to the office, I could send them back with her the same day, after copying them to my laptop.

This is a redundant reply, I realize, but I will use it as an excuse to snuggle you (back). ;>)

Son of a Preacher Man - Dusty Springfield

Oh, I love that song. I had to download it a couple of weeks ago. Just had to have it.
Anna S.eliade on April 3rd, 2004 06:10 pm (UTC)
It's amazing how some songs hold up and others don't. So many of my favorites are 20-30 years old or more.

Is that icon a picture of you? If so, you're very cute.

I can burn you just about any Duran Duran mp3 you want. I definitely have both versions of Save a Prayer. Let me know if you want 'em via the internet or on a disc or what.
Anna S.eliade on April 3rd, 2004 06:13 pm (UTC)
If you had a way to upload, I could DL on Monday. If not, no worries. Just out of curiosity, is the live version the acoustic version? When I was younger I had a tape of performances from "The Secret Policeman's Third Ball," and now it's a huge rarity. That's the version I'm thinking of. That's also where the Joan Armatrading song is from. I should really shell out for that, maybe. There are a few copies on Amazon....
infidel in the laundromat: scootergotham_syren on April 2nd, 2004 09:50 pm (UTC)
Well, I do have one of these that has gone unmentioned, but it's on vinyl and buried in a closet (ha!) at my parents' house: Bronski Beat's album The Age of Consent (which includes 'Aint Necessarily So'). Also a smashing cover of 'I Feel Love.' Anyway, I am vastly tickled that I am not the only one who has heard their songs... And now I feel very old thankyouverymuch.
Anna S.eliade on April 3rd, 2004 06:14 pm (UTC)
I had a lot of these on vinyl when I was young. :>) And you can't feel old or obscure in taste about Bronski Beat--just pretend you're a gay man trapped in a woman's body and of course you'd have heard of them.
Poppydearg on April 3rd, 2004 12:48 pm (UTC)
I am a bit surprised by some of your choices. The first one that struck me was 'Kids in America' which I bopped around too when i was about six. Did you know Kim Wilde is now a makeover TV gardener?
The other thing that struck me is how many British artists where on it. Did you spend time there?
Robert Palmer has a best of called 'The Very Best of Robert Palmer' which may help you out.
But overall I have to say irespect your list.
Anna S.eliade on April 3rd, 2004 06:15 pm (UTC)
I've never been out of the U.S. I'd like to hit Europe someday. I didn't notice the national leanings of my list! Now I am tempted to analyze based on that. :>)

"Kids in America" was one of those early MTV vids that shaped my pre-teen consciousness, I seem to recall.

Profiling time
You are clearly my age give or take a few years. The thing that clinches it is Toto. It screams "80s Music" and I think that only those who were there can love it for what it is. You also hung out in college bars in Pennsylvania (Oh, What a Night, Tainted Love, Last Dance)

Also, you are a woman of wonderful taste as you unashamedly picked my favorite Hootie and the Blowfish song("Let Her Cry"). I have that on CD along with the GnR song. I possibly have all of the Simon and Garfunkle songs and I'm not sure about the Jackson Browne as I have a couple of his CDs, but that song isn't on my favorite list. Unfortunately my Low Spark of High Heeled Boys is on a tape. Stupid old fangled technology. I can pop the others up on the net at some point this week.
