reader's choice
Fantastic post from coffeeandink offering "personal axioms of reading." Some of the best thoughts I've read in a while--Mely mentioned she wasn't sure if these were too obvious or not, but in fact, they're not too obvious. They make me nod in a kind of recognition at some points, but mostly it's stuff that would never even have come into my thoughts in any articulately formed way. She is a cool frood. Also, number eight is something I've been feeling a lot lately, both parts of it.

I live number ten most days, so I have to hug her for that one. *g*

Am rewatching "The Italian Job" for glossing. Don't anticipate writing any slash (sorry!) but it's very enjoyable. Am trying to imagine who I'd slash Lyle with if I were going to slash him--Handsome Rob? Hmmm.

Current Mood: desperately upbeat

Dude. It's Lyle and Left Ear all the way. There's a whole sexass geek vibe there, bits and bytes and old books.

And just so you know? You're #4 all the way.

Ah, the "cute and dorky" theory of slashing. *g* I always try to pair big guys with little guys, tough guys with cutie pies. But I can see your point.

And just so you know? You're #4 all the way.

Er, the loveable monster, you mean? Because yes, I think I over-identify quite a lot on that identity. (Shh--secret!)

And hey--did you just change your LJ name to one-act pony? Because stop that! Change it back or I'll smack you a good one. Hmmph.

Moi? Whatever could you mean?

Yeah, I did. Stress, man! Makes me nutty. I'll change it back.

I want someone to make me Vin Diesel/Seth Green slash. Because, damnit.

My boyfriend Lyle?
Anna S.: spike_femmeeliade on November 21st, 2003 10:54 pm (UTC)
I guess so! And hey, if he's your boyfriend, you can give him to anyone. You can like, share him out at parties and stuff.

...going to a naughty place now, in a world dominated by women...

Hey, what classic 70s feminist sci-fi story am I thinking of, where the world is a matriarchy and there's a scene where the woman has this rather dumb man-toy and uses him to get herself off, and it's a rather radical description of sex (which impacted my tender psychosexual development), where she straddles him, working his cock like a slippery pumpkin seed? It's a fairly famous story, I think, but that's all I remember, that one tiny bit of imagery. Maybe Joanna Russ...hmm.

Heh. The power of a good image.

No clue.

Yes, Joanna Russ The Female Man. Chapter XI of part eight.

I love LiveJournal for reasons like this. *g* Thank you!

*beams happily at you*

*stops checking for llamas*

It all started from the Unpopular Meme--well, no, it didn't; it was a convergence of the Unpopular Meme and giving up mutant_allies and my dysfunctional relationship with fandom and remembering why I loved books and the occasional TV show.

Also, I hope you do watch Angel soon, because I think you will really enjoy this episode.
a polysemous morality--made up of the contrasting and often contradictory voices of characters
And the richest characters, IMO, are the ones who are so conflicted, so all-over-the-place, that one writer can write evilsoullessassSpike, and another can write justneedsahugSpike, and *both* can be faithful to the canonical depictions of the character. Ditto judgementalhypocriteXander and loyaltothedeathXander.

Once canon depicts a character as *completely* 100% something, I think they kill some of the possibility of that character. If Willow is 100% GAYNOW!, then that robs her character of any chance for growth in that area. If Spike is soulless and incapable of being anything more, that robs his character of growth potential as well.
