men with brooms

Our company has an annual picnic at which they hold a broomball tournament. Broomball strikes me as a deliberately self-conscious sport, a bit silly in concept. But what do I know, I've never even watched it played. Anyway, in the photojournal of this event, I noticed that all the players were Very Serious and also very men. There were, okay, a few token women players, but out of 36 photos showing jaw-gripping broomball action, there were only three shots with women, and in two of them, the women were simply standing on the sidelines and watching the field. The rest showed manly MBAs bumping chests and shoving enormous balls at each other with their long, forceful brooms and then pouring beer on each other's heads.

I think I speak for us all when I say, whatever.

In other news, I have an imaginary cat. Her name is Scooter. She's lying on my desk on her side like a big fat furry fish that can't quite heave itself upright, looking at me with slitted eyes and wondering why humans are so stupid as to spend prime nap time working.

I am sleepy.
