The one with the hobbits.

Well, I went to see "The Two Towers" today.

Big. Shiny. Loud.

Okay, so I'm not what you'd call a huge Tolkien fan. I mean, I like the movies and all, the way you'd like peanut butter pie if it was handed to you. But I'm not a *huge* fan, like so many of my friends, and by "huge fan" I mean of course "rabid, slavering wolverine." A lot of the early stuff was designed to cool my enthusiasm. I'm not thrilled by obvious CGI. Ents. Gollum. They just bug me. But the later battle scenes were gripping. I don't remember any of the books, really, so I had no idea what was going to happen at any given moment, and that was nice.

All the heterosexual romance stuff? Boring. But the love between hobbits is a good and pure love. And Elijah Wood--my god, he suffers beautifully. Especially when you crop out his prosthetic feet. He's like a male Joan of Arc or something. Like a martyr who is being constantly tormented by the flames of hell, torn between an ecstatic state of grace and the vilest anguish. Every time the ring's power licked over him, he looked almost orgasmic. Which certainly lent a lot to my enjoyment of the movie.

Plus, Legolas a/k/a "Legs" Greenleaf? Nice tights, dude. Can I touch your thigh?

Men pretty.
