the writing unlife

When writing is going well, most everything else falls by the wayside, including good intentions. Never mind that. I'm 13,000 words into the noir du jour--sweet fucking Jesus, it's taken forever--and am climbing the peak to plant my flag. I am still rather in hate with this particular story, because it's taken so damn long that I can't help but resent it, but I'm beginning to think it might not be bad. After a long grim winter, the ice is cracking, and I'm cracking myself up as I write, which seems a good sign. Occasionally I also cackle evilly as cruel plot twists flutter over to land on my fingers.

vonnie_k is doing a meme on "movies I love that you've probably never seen" and I was thinking about making a list but I'm feeling lazy and unmemish. I will recommend "Coming Soon" though, a brilliant, funny, femme-y-nist coming-of-age movie that is grossly misunderstood and maligned on IMDb, probably because it was also mis-marketed, thus disappointing a million little wankers expecting tits, ass, and body shots. Just trust me. Hunt it down. Rent it.
