hello, and a world of kinks
I've been quiet, and I regret not posting thank-yous before now for all the birthday wishes--actually, for the ones that were posted in my LJ, as I think I nailed anyone who posted in their own, for fear of losing track. Thank you! :)

Not to undercut the moment, but I've been quiet mostly because I've been having a bad time of it lately. I'm trying to pull out of a tailspin. For many of you, I can probably just cite the usual and you'll know as much as you need to know, without me grizzling on about the details.

I haven't been writing, but for the last several days I've been obsessing--for no particular reason I can think of--over a project to compile all the kinks I can think of, which I'm posting behind the cut-tag below. Right now, 355 388 entries.

Note: The contextual notes now appear at the end of the list.

▪ "Kinks" is used here as a broad term that includes emotional, plot-related, and sexual kinks. I could go into detail about why I think these often combine together to heighten one's response to a story, but I think it might be self-evident so I'll err on the side of sparing you. Clichés are things I generally feel positively about, but you're welcome to use items on this list as negative examples or squicks.
▪ Not all these kinks are mine! *g*
▪ I consciously made a point of adding het or female-centered kinks whenever I thought of them, but these are blind spots for me, and I know that the list still has a bias toward m/m slash kinks.
▪ The parentheticals are usually examples rather than definitions. You can mentally put an "et cetera" after most of the lists. Relatedly, "e.g." means for example and "i.e." means that is, which I just mention because I used to confuse them years ago, I think, and are abbreviations of Latin phrases really that intuitive, anyway?
▪ Feel free to take this list and make it your own. You don't need to attribute it to me. You can copy and post it in your LJ or on your Web site, rewrite and add to it, quote it, link to it, or cite it in your thesis. Anything. Really. Fly, little kink list, be free.
▪ You can suggest other kinks in comments, and I might or might not edit the list. But if nothing else, I'll read your comments happily. :)

Wow. That's an amazing list. Skimming it, I found some terms caught my eye because they aren't kinks for me -- and other terms caught my eye because they deeply are.

Anyhow. Mostly just wanted to say, thinking of you. The last week in January is ostensibly the most depressing of the year, according to some study or other; I hope the increasing light and other general good things conspire to make you feel better about the universe. *hug*

There are several of these which are more in the nature of squicks for me, but I tried not to let my own tastes shape it too repressively. ;)

We've had 387 days of rain so far this year in Seattle. I always say how much I love it here, and I do--it feels like home--so it's a reflection of how much I'm hating this weather that I've had thoughts lately about whether I should move. Whatever's got me down, it's probably half SAD-related. :P

a) *is in awe*

b) You should offer these up as a kink-a-thon -- sign up, get one randomly, write fic with Anna's favorite characters!

c) This makes me realize why I often feel out of step with fandom, especially slash fandom; I have so few kinks. Not that I have a lot of squicks either, but I feel like I'm lacking a common ground with people. :(

d) Happy Birthday!
Anna S.eliade on January 30th, 2006 03:07 am (UTC)
(b) Heh. That would be utterly self-indulgent, wouldn't it? I like it. *g*

(c) Interesting--I thought I'd made the kink idea broad enough that it would cover most people's interests; e.g., time-travel, AUs, law-enforcement characters, etc. I am sure you must have kinks, actually. I will poke you until they fall out. ;)

(d) Thank you! *hugs*

That's quite a list. I share many of these. I don't know if that's interesting or not, but there it is.

Also, Hi - I'm sorry you're having a rough time and I'm thinking of you.

I share many of them too--I really am kind of a readerly slut, I think.

Hi back. ;) I never did thank you for the snippet drabble commentfic thingy you wrote for my request! I've been guilting over that for the last two weeks. I've been loving all your drabblings. You bring the good to fandom. *hugs*

what an amazing list!!! some of them made me go huh? but so many do hit me just the right way!!! and i like the way you have both acts and plots and characterizations in there, b/c all of these can work for people!!!

see, and for triangulation (definitely one of mine:) i have the icon and the theoretical essay to show for :D
Anna S.eliade on January 30th, 2006 03:13 am (UTC)
You do have iconage! :) There's a classic scene of triangulation in one of the Darkover novels that made a big impression on me during my formative years. *g* Someday I must reread that series.

You have been missed, and now consider yourself hugged. I hope things are picking up for you and that your doing okay now!

I was a dolt and when I first saw this I thought you were listing all your own personal kinks and then I scrolled, and scrolled, and scrolled some more and thought bloody hell! Well at least it would keep things interesting.

But wow, it's pretty amazing all the different things that are done just to get someone's motor cranking. Or that could be my kink of vintage motor cars coming out - heh.

Impressive. (Though while you got "children" and "mpreg", you missed "pregnancy" and "babyfic", which I suspect are separate from, but related to, both of the former.)

A similar endeavor, laid out . . . er . . . done in graphic fashion:
Anna S.: harry-pottereliade on January 30th, 2006 02:58 am (UTC)
I've seen that image before! :D But not in a while. I actually left out a number of fetishes and philias that don't seem to turn up in fandom that much, like the creepy one about high-heeled women stepping on animals.

I have kidfic listed, which I'd consider inclusive of babyfic. I'm not sure I've ever seen pregnancy as a kink in fan-fiction.

Dude!!!!!!!!!!! Here it is, and boy howdy, it's comprehensive. And an, um, interesting read. Heh.

I appreciate how non-judgmental and inclusive your list is-- it's a real measure of your evenhandedness that my squicks and my kinks read the same, in terms of tone.

I had the same thought as Posh-- it's totally like one of those "Books I Have Read" memes. I say we meme it!

On a more serious note...we have several friends who are living in your part of the world, and are seriously suffering from the rain. I had a rough-ish time of it for the year I lived in Oregon, too-- it's just really hard to think positively when you haven't seen the sun in, like, 40 days. I wish you well and send you good vibes and sunshine. ::hugs::

Yay list! *pets it*

I have a question, though - why did Vaginal/female genital fetishization (wet, tight; virginal; aching/stiff clit; wide lips; multi-orgasmic) make it onto the list while a male/masculine equivalent didn't? Surely hot throbbing cocks are just as fetishized?
Anna S.eliade on January 30th, 2006 04:38 am (UTC)
And I give you...

Cock and/or ball fetishization (uncircumcised cocks; large cocks; heavy balls; durable erection; deep dicking; very hard/rigid erection; trouser bulges)

*g* It was already there, though I don't have hot and throbbing. I mean, if I went down that path, I wouldn't be able to stop. Red, straining, lifting,, yeah.

I think it is the frisky fish in your icon bringing the water to a boil. *g*

A couple you missed:

Cannibalism. Or does that fall under food?

Weapons and armor. Being forced into sex at gun point, made to suck the gun, sodomized with a sword hilt, being crushed to an armored chest, struck with a chainmailed glove, etc.

Impalement, fatal or non.

Historical settings? did I miss this one?
Anna S.eliade on January 30th, 2006 07:29 am (UTC)
I left out scat; I've never seen it in fan-fiction. I omitted some others for similar reasons--e.g., infantilism, arousal by flatulence, etc. *g*

Weapons and armor would be associated with a number of the categories--warriors, military fetishization, etc. Guy-play covers a lot of ground and I mentioned sodomization.

I debated over historical settings but it seemed to cover so much ground, that I decided to let specific examples fall where they may. Off the top of my head, I know I have Greco-Roman classicism, Westerns, fairy-tales, highwaymen, castles as settings, etc etc.
