vid rec: Hallelujah (SGA)
This vid--and now, by association, the song by Rufus Wainwright--keeps breaking my heart. sanj had a review, calling it "one of the most complex and ambitious vids in the collection..." Those are great words to describe it. She's also right that there are two vid storylines here--the Rodney and John relationship, and the story of Atlantis. And I love that. This is one of those vids that makes my chest ache.

Hallelujah

This and other vids can be found in this post.

Now I need to see other SGA vids; I've been collecting VVC vid posts in memories and looking in particular for mentions of SGA vids, but I don't recall seeing anything else. Recs for any online vids are welcome here. :)

What software do you need to view divx files? Any idea? Thanks!
Sunrysesunryse00 on August 25th, 2005 04:14 pm (UTC)
you need the divx codec and just about any video program. Divx can be downloaded in a bundle with a Divx viewer, Windows Media Player works if you have a PC. I know there is a player for Macs but I don't know what it is (don't have a Mac) but if you google for mac+divx you should find something that works.

Nearly everything you could ever need to know about playing vids - and problems with playback - eventually shows up in the LJ community, Vidding. Here's a link to the memories post with playback-related entries.

Specifically, your first stop should be AbsoluteDestiny & Trythil's fantastic guide, How to Play Those Damn Vids! Absolutely essential for any vid fan.

I also very strongly rec the VLC player, which plays nearly everything without having to download a ton of codecs separately. VLC plays on Windows & Macs & on a variety of other OS. Does a better job than any other media player in terms of variety AND quality playback.

I don't know Deadwood from Everwood, but I remember you posting about wanting new music recently, so even if you aren't grabbed by the vid, listen to the song -- I immediately grabbed it for my iPod.

Check out vidding_archive, vidding both communities have quite a few SGA vids in their memories. But the best place would be atlantis_vids where it's SGA all the time.

When Merry gets Hello online, you really need to see that. :)

The SGA vids that I saw in the program were Merry's (a Premieres vid) and one of Barkley's that showed up in the Instrumentals show, although I think it was also premiering. You might check Barkley's LJ, because I'm fairly sure she updated her site and posted a link to the vids she brought to Vividcon already.

Yay! You liked the vid. How cool is that? *g*

One on-line vidder for you to look into is mamoru22 - She did "Cartoon Heroes" which is a meta-vid that might squick you as it contains actor behind the scenes shots for both SGA and SG-1, but which is a fabulous, fabulous vid. I love her version of "Falling for the First Time" with a guilt-pleasure type of love; the song coice is so, so Rodney. "Circles in the Sand" is also good. The link to her vid site is here I totally fangirl her.

I have a bunch of other vids, too. I love the "Bohemian Like You" vid for Zelenka for example, even though it is flawed, and I don't have link to where I got it from anymore. I'll do some research later and see what I can find.

Hallelujah!
Hallelujah and Jolene are the best vids that I've seen in a long time. Clean, crisp images with the approrpiate choice of music - these are a 10!
