Angel: Peace Out
Where's Cordy...?

Connor: "Tell me and I'll crush your windpipe."
Guy: "You mean *or*, right? *Or* you'll crush my windpipe?"

Oh, Connor. You're my favorite sociopath ever!

Can I share your Connor love for a moment? Not too many people out there can. I hated him with a passion just like everyone else the first time through, but I a really enjoy the character and the actor who plays him. I get a kick out of him this time thru, even when he's being a pain in the butt.

I asked a handful of viewers one time what they hated the most about Connor, and they all said the same thing: his hair. I found that to be funny and true. His hair really did drive me insane. But I was really wondering what character flaw they hated, so this really cracked me up. By the way, I questioned each of them individually. So, now I wonder if a haircut in season 4 would have made any difference in the viewers reactions to him, or if the hatred was too fresh back then? Enquiring minds. ;)

Isn't it weird what turns us onto a character, or off? It really is this whole charisma factor that can't be quantified. I suspect his hair did bug me first time around, but this time, I find it an endearing quality--he's so slackery and perfectly teenagery, with a complete indifference to appearance which in itself is a kind of cultivated attitude. (Or would be, in a normal teen--with Connor, kid from an alternate hell dimension, it may be quite real.)

Heeeee! And the thing with the cops where they're trying to herd him out of the church, and there's this beat of silence and then the two of them go crashing through the barred doors.

I love how one of them manages to draw his gun and Connor just punches him out like he was flicking away a piece of lint. Except, he's like, really pissed off about it. Damn lint!

I ::heart:: Connor. He's so messed up, and doesn't really care at all. I should probably be disturbed that I love someone who's so ready to kill at a second's notice, but I'm not.

I adore him, too, and did from the outset. Of course, I was the minority.

[stands on wobbly wooden soapbox-crate of those who loved Connor from the moment his scruffy, sullen, skin-clad, bony body dropped in from Quortoth and said "hi Dad..."]

He's such an adorable psychotic little twerp. How can you not love him and his fuck-ups? One of my favorite lines *ever* from a TV show is a Connor line: "You. You're the reason my life sucks."

I have been loving your Angel commentary. I am going to have to get some money together and buy the next season before you get to it!!

I too was amazed to find how much more I loved Connor the second time around. The farther I get into fandom obsession in general the more I realize my main interest lies with the gray, angsty characters. And I do have such a weak spot for teen drama.

Not to mention VK is one attractive boy.

Hee! Mine too.

He had me at... well, at "Hi."

Oh, I love the unstable little buddy.

You know what you should write? You should write Wes/Connor.

I too am enjoying your commentaries. I want to go back to season 4 to watch with you!
I couldn't stand Connor the first time around. He seemed like a very physically strong and psychotic Dawn character - whiney and rather pointless. But when I rewatched last fall - hooboyo. I went on a little VK binge - and I got all his movies and watched them. He's quite an actor. It made me appreciate what he did on Angel even more.
I really think watching the series without having to wait a week or two or three helps the continuity of the story. Yes - there's some strange lapses in narrative in season four but I guess it still made more sense to me upon viewing the DVD's than the choppy presentation of the original airing on network tv.
I also love me some VK hair! It's SO very 70's! It brings back all those memories of cute boys and their sloppy little shag haircuts!

I always loved Connor, except for the wierd thing with Cordy and how he kept trying to feel her up surreptitiously. Ewwww. I mean, that's yucky enough, but this woman gave him bottles when he was a kid and changed his nappies.

I mean, come one, meet a girl your own age.

After Wes, easily my favourite character. I thought he was great. So vicious. So conflicted. That scene just before Jasmine arrives, when the poor wee girl is begging for her life and then he drags her away to be sacrificed? Aaargh. Very believable.

Hell yeah, I love the boy. I watched the DVD in a rush a few months ago without having seen it air originally or anything, with only the barest outline of his story pre-season 4, and I loved him. He's one of the few characters who totally own their fucked-upness. I mean, the dude has reasons. The destruction of his basic personality from confused and messed-up to total breakdown was realistic, fucking well-acted and heart-breaking. He's one of those characters I love not because they're cool (Faith, Spike) or hot (Wes) but 'cos I don't want anyone to harm a hair on his overly vulnerable head.

That's my second-favorite Connor line. My favorite is also in Season 4 (I forget the exact episode) when he asks "How long does it take to chop off Lilah's head?" It's the petulant tone in his voice that makes it so funny for me.
Anna S.eliade on March 2nd, 2005 04:21 am (UTC)
I love the bit where Angel's caged, pre-desoulment, and is all serious, like, "And if I go bad, you're going to have to kill me--" And C. doesn't *quite* cut him off, but replies fast on the heels of that with, "Yeah, whatever." (Paraphrase, of course.) Blase. He's so ready to do it, he's already over it. *g*
